Scott Allen, Ph.D.
Instructor
Executive Education
Biography
Scott Allen helps leaders build the skills essential to effective leadership, including problem-solving, accountability, negotiation, influence and conflict management. Through his SMU Cox Executive Education courses, he explores the dynamics of leadership and followership, equipping participants with practical tools to lead themselves and others more effectively.
Allen describes his approach to learning as “fast, fun and fascinating.” He uses case studies, interactive activities, film, discussion and goal setting to engage different learning styles and connect each lesson to participants’ day-to-day work. His goal is simple: respect their time and ensure they leave with insights they can apply immediately.
While AI increasingly shapes business conversations, Allen believes strong leadership fundamentals remain indispensable. Leaders still need critical thinking, strategic judgment and complex problem-solving skills to determine where emerging technologies can create meaningful value. They must also be prepared to navigate the human side of leadership—from difficult conversations and accountability to team building and performance.
Allen finds Executive Education especially rewarding because it allows him to work with professionals confronting these challenges every day. By helping them strengthen their leadership capabilities, he enables participants to return to their organizations better prepared to build effective teams and deliver results.
